Benjamin Elbers published a new article and data visualization mapping changes in U.S. residential racial segregation from 1990 to 2020 in the journal Socius.
LCDS affiliate and Nuffield College Postdoctoral Fellow Benjamin Elbers' article explores whether the 'diversity explosion’ in U.S. metropolitan areas has also lead to declines in segregation.
The data visualization looks at this issue using multiple approaches of a multigroup index and all possible pairwise segregation indices. It also includes estimates of segregation based on recently released 2020 census data.

Elbers concludes "the trend in multigroup residential racial segregation in the United States from 1990 to 2020 shows a decline". However, the article notes that "the pace of the decrease is slow and there are no signs of residential racial segregation radically declining in the coming years".
