The Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science and Department of Sociology at the University of Oxford seek to appoint a Departmental Lecturer in Demography.
The position will entail 70% research aligned with the Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science and 30% teaching duties associated with the interdisciplinary
Institute of Human Sciences, undertaking demographic teaching within the Undergraduate Degree in Human Sciences, an interdisciplinary undergraduate degree combining the social and biological sciences.

Eligibility criteria
The successful applicant will have a relevant PhD or DPhil with post-qualification teaching and research experience, sufficient depth and breadth of the subject knowledge to develop course units along with specialist knowledge for developing research projects and methodologies, a strong publication record, and evidence of the ability to write research proposals.
Candidates should have a relevant PhD to teach demographic and quantitative methods, sufficient depth and breadth of demography and/or related human sciences and LCDS research, quantitative research and analytical techniques.
Responsibilities
Your main responsibilities are to engage in demographic research aligned within the broad themes of the LCDS, with teaching duties including lecturing, tutoring, and supervising postgraduate and undergraduate students, producing course materials, participating in student admissions processes and examining.
We also strongly support researchers to forge strong independent research lines within LCDS and Human Sciences themes.
This post is available full-time and is fixed-term to 30 September 2025, with funding for LCDS secured until the end of 2029.

What is the LCDS?
The LCDS is a multi-departmental research Centre of around 40 staff at the University of Oxford, funded by the Leverhulme Trust and Nuffield College. Launched in October 2019 for an initial period of 10 years, the Centre is highly interdisciplinary, with the aim to disrupt and realign conventional thinking and infuse science into demography. Our aim is to harvest and link classic and new types of data, alongside innovative statistical approaches and methods to generate accurate, timely and effective demographic knowledge and predictions to resolve the most challenging population problems of our time.
In our first 2 years we have published over 140 publications, received multiple awards including an impact award prize, advised national and international governments and worked actively with industry. To date, we have generated over £20 Million in research grants and have ambitious plans for the future.
