We are looking for three enthusiastic, highly motivated and talented individuals to join our team here at the Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science (LCDS).
All three posts, two Postdoctoral Researchers and one Senior Research Fellow, will work on the European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant CHRONO research project: Chronotype, health and family – the role of biology, socio- and natural environment and their interaction. The project is embedded at the LCDS and led by its Director Professor Melinda Mills.
This ERC grant is awarded to examine how disrupted environments, employment and family lives are related to health and demographic outcomes.
Lives have been disrupted by the widespread use of electronic devices, artificial light but also recent COVID-19 transformations to work, family and life patterns. This project fuses biological and social approaches to examine the role of biology, genetics, the natural and social environment and their interaction on predicting and understanding resilience in working and living conditions and how this relates to health and family outcomes. The project will draw on existing and new biosocial data in addition to novel data that combines multiple data types with social and natural environmental measures using a variety of statistical approaches.
Since it started in 2019, the Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science has attracted some of the world’s leading scientists. The successful candidates will join our vibrant and friendly multidisciplinary team working collaboratively. We are physically located in the Department of Sociology at the University of Oxford.

· Postdoctoral Researcher in Biosocial Research
The postholder will be part of the larger team within the ERC CHRONO research project and be open to novel and diverse approaches, have strong writing, data analysis and programming skills and enjoy working as part of scientific team. The postholder will also have the opportunity to develop their own independent research projects within the theme of the ERC grant.
Applicants should hold a PhD (or close to completion) in demography, biostatistics, statistics, genetics, biology, epidemiology, computer science, economics, sociology or another relevant discipline. You will have experience or interest in developing skills in biosocial research and analysing complex data, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Openness to learning new skills and applying different disciplinary approaches is a must.
This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment until 31st October 2024, starting as soon as possible and no later than 1st September 2021.

· Postdoctoral Researcher in Crowdsourced Data Collection
The postholder will be part of the larger team within the ERC CHRONO research project and will focus specifically on the crowdsourced data collection project within CHRONO, which collects multiple sources of data including self-reported surveys, social media archives, genetics and family genealogies. The postholder need not hold expertise in all of the data types but be specialised or interested in developing skills in these areas.
Applicants should hold a PhD (or close to completion) in computer science, marketing or business, demography, biostatistics, statistics, genetics, biology, epidemiology, economics, sociology, or another relevant discipline. You will have experience handling and managing a complex online data interface and structures, as well as ability to work both independently and as part of team within the grant project. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Openness to learning new skills and applying different disciplinary approaches is a must.
This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment until 31st October 2024, commencing as soon as possible and no later than 1st September 2021.

· Senior Research Fellow in Biosocial & Digital Research
The postholder will be a senior member of the ERC CHRONO research team with leading responsibility and provide advice and guidance to junior members in the research group. The post holder will also have the opportunity to develop their own independent research projects within the broad theme of the ERC Grant.
The postholder does not need to hold skills in all areas listed above about the project, and can be specialised in one or more areas (e.g., biostatistics, or expertise in data analysis in the area of genetics, social media, wearables, chronotype, labour market, complex family data). Openness to novel approaches, curiosity, creativity, strong writing and data analysis, programming and data visualisation skills and enjoyment of working as part of scientific team is a must.
Applicants should hold a PhD in biostatistics, statistics, genetics, biology, demography, epidemiology, computer science, demography, economics, sociology or another relevant discipline. You will have experience handling and analysing at least one type of complex data (e.g., genetic, digital, wearables), and interest in developing skills further. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential as well as ability to work both independently and as part of team within the project. Openness to learning new skills and applying different disciplinary approaches is also a must.
