We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Centre Manager to oversee the operation of the Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science (LCDS). You will manage the Centre’s administrative team, oversee a multidisciplinary research team, and support the Centre’s Director and Senior Management Team in the successful running of this world-class research centre. The LCDS is a multi-departmental research centre of around 40 staff at the University of Oxford (www.demographicscience.ox.ac.uk), funded by the Leverhulme Trust and Nuffield College. Launched in October 2019 for an initial period of 10 years, the Centre is highly interdisciplinary, with the aim to disrupt and realign conventional thinking and infuse science into demography. Our aim is to harvest and link classic and new types of data, alongside innovative statistical approaches and methods to generate accurate, timely and effective demographic knowledge and predictions to resolve the most challenging population problems of our time.
In our first 2 years we have published over 140 publications, received multiple awards including an impact award prize, advised national and international governments and worked actively with industry. To date, we have generated over £20 Million in research grants and have ambitious plans for the future. In this role, you will line manage your own team of a Personal and Administrative Assistant, Research Grants Officer, and Media and Communications Officer, developing and delivering an excellent administrative service for the Centre. You will also work closely with Sociology’s administrative team (where the Centre is physically located) and Social Sciences Divisional Support, including the Head of Administration and Finance, Senior HR Officer, Facilities Support, and IT, while liaising with stakeholders across and outside of the University. You will represent the Centre as a senior administrator; analyse, interpret and synthesize data; and develop and deliver relevant training for administrative and research staff in the Centre. Candidates must be educated to degree level, or hold equivalent experience. You will be a strategic thinker and have a strong track record in personnel management, as well as excellent interpersonal skills and an adaptable approach to work. You will have excellent financial management skills with experience of budget administration, forecasting and reporting. Excellent communications skills and experience of contributing to reports, publications and presentations are also essential.
