We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Senior Data Scientist to join the new innovative interdisciplinary research centre, the Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science which is headed by Professor Melinda Mills at the University of Oxford.
The Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science (LCDS) is funded by the Leverhulme Trust. It aims to disrupt and realign how we measure and model populations, by infusing new types of data, methods, and unconventional approaches to tackle the most challenging demographic problems of our time.
The post holder will lead work in this area and proactively collaborate actively with researchers in the LCDS and be pivotal in providing support for computational research projects carried out throughout the centre.
The post holder will also have the opportunity to develop their own independent research projects if desired within the themes covered by the LCDS research programme. The person within this exciting new role will lead the design, development and maintenance of the LCDS online and data storage infrastructure, establishing workflows for online dashboards, data security and cluster computing, and support large-scale data analysis of multiple types of data (e.g., digital, genomic, survey, administrative), as well as advise and support LCDS research staff in their programming and computational needs.
Applicants should hold a PhD, (or be close to completion), in computer science, statistics, demography, bioinformatics, economics or another relevant discipline. You will have experience handling and analysing complex data, as well as high-level programming skills in languages used in statistical and data sciences (e.g., Python, R), server-side, database security and management. Further, excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Experience of working in an interdisciplinary environment would be desirable.
