We are excited to announce that the Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science has launched a new Demographic Science Unit, led by Professor Melinda Mills, based at Oxford Population Health.
The new Demographic Science Unit was launched on 1 August 2023 and will play a vital role in Oxford Population Health’s world-leading research into the causes, prevention and treatment of disease, alongside unifying demographic and population research across the University of Oxford.
The Demographic Science Unit follows on from the success of the Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science (LCDS) in tackling the most challenging demographic and population problems of our time.
Professor Melinda Mills, Director of the Demographic Science Unit and LCDS, adds, ‘The Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science will continue to be a powerhouse for demographic research and will be instrumental in the success of the Demographic Science Unit. This launch to form a new unit within OxPop and BDI ensures longer term sustainability, and enhances our ability to engage in interdisciplinary research with the greatest global impact.’
The Demographic Science Unit’s multi-disciplinary approach will continue to grow. To celebrate the launch, we are opening up six research positions, advertised in the coming period on our vacancies page, see this webpage for more details. These roles include one joint position with the Department of Statistics at the University of Oxford.
Professor Melinda Mills concludes, ‘We look forward to working closely with our partners and funders, as well as forging new collaborations with other world-leading research groups at OxPop, the BDI, Medical Sciences Division and beyond, to disrupt and realign demography for the benefit of all.’
